For the past year and half, it has been very hard or even impossible to travel around the world.
However, with the recent developments of vaccines and policies to prevent the spreading of Corona, a slow return to a more normal travelling life might be getting closer.
The Economist Intelligence Unit's Safe Cities Index (SCI) ranks the safest cities in the world every year.
This year there is even a new category, “Environmental Security”, most likely due to the pandemic. And thanks to this, the ranking results were a bit different than usual.
Copenhagen was considered the safest city in the world, largely because of the new category “Environmental Security” and low crime rate. The city is known for having a narrow wealth gap. It’s common for people of all working positions to meet in the street and local markets, and this creates high levels of safety and trust.
Toronto, Sydney and Tokyo also got high spots in the ranking, as they had in previous year.

コペンハーゲンが世界一安全な都市とされ、その主な理由が新カテゴリーの「環境セキュリティ」と低い犯罪率である。コペンハーゲンは、貧富の格差が小さいことで知られている。あらゆる労働層の人々が道やローカルマーケットを行き交うのがごく普通の光景であり、それが高い安全性と信頼を作り上げている。
トロント、シドニー、東京も昨年に引き続き上位にランクインした。
