Portugal decided to cancel all flights departing to or arriving from outside the EU starting this Thursday ( March 19th ). This is the latest measure to try to prevent the spread of the COVID-19. There are a few exceptions to this new rule: Portuguese speaking countries and countries with a strong presence of the diaspora (Canada, the USA, Venezuela and South Africa).
Several Japanese citizens studying in Portugal have had their “Study Abroad Program” terminated but are now having trouble going back to Japan. Others, living or working in Portugal with Working Holiday Visas, are also struggling to buy tickets to return home, as most have sold out or are being sold for very high prices.
Portuguese politicians will decide today ( March 18th ) if Portugal will enter a “State of Emergency”. This will possibly lead to more restrictions to all those living in Portugal.
