Although being a virus, the consequences of coronavirus go far beyond health-related problems.
Earlier this week in Japan, many schools closed in an attempt to control the spreading of the virus. Thousands of parents were suddenly faced with the need to stay home to take care of their children.
Not only most working people in Japan are not used to doing remote work, but they are also not used to having to look after their children during the afternoon.
Many people are complaining that the announcement to close the schools was too sudden and that they had no time to prepare a backup plan.
Fortunately, several companies are trying their best to support the troubled parents, either by allowing them to bring their children to work, or by providing some ways to keep the children entertained at home, like providing free subscriptions to usually paid services.
Japan is the latest country to join what many are calling “The World’s Largest Work-From-Home Experiment”.

単なるウイルスといえども、コロナウイルスの影響は健康問題の範疇を遥かに超えるものとなっている。
今週の初め、日本では、コロナウイルスの拡散を抑制するために多くの学校が閉鎖となった。多くの親が、突然、子どもの面倒を見るために家にいる必要性に直面することとなった。
日本で働くほとんどの人は、リモートワークに慣れていないだけでなく、日中子どもの世話をしなければならないことにも不慣れである。
多くの人が、学校閉鎖のアナウンスが突然すぎて、バックアッププランを準備する時間がなかったと不平を漏らしている。
幸いにも、子どもを職場に連れていくことを許可したり、或いは、通常有料となるサービスへの登録を無料で提供するなどして家で子どもたちが楽しめるようにしたりすることで、困っている親をできる限りサポートしようと試みている企業がいくつもある。 日本は、いわゆる「世界最大の在宅勤務実験」に参加した最新国である。
